Hopelessness is more like powerlessness. You think there is no way out. You feel fed up. You feel like you are stuck in a rut. You try to improve things, but you keep bouncing back down. It's like some large strings keep pulling you back down, so you think what's the point. What's the point of even trying as i will only get pulled back down again.
There is a way through and it's not to keep trying to get out by forcing it as it it will only increase your frustration.
You have to take out the ropes that are tying you down. You have to release them, then you can surge on forward with your life and achieve success. You have to do it. Release the negative emotion (the ropes) then you will be free to achieve whatever you want. Try it.
